Browser captures with Windows 7

Postby laddmay on Mon Jul 12, 2010 5:28 pm

We're having problems capturing pages in a browser after an upgrade to Windows 7.

We've just upgraded a user machine from Vista pro to Windows 7. We're trying to do captures on a web application, but the capture tool does not register the browser page or any of the objects on it. Instead it registers the objects on any other open application. The capture tool DOES recognize the browser menu and toolbars, but nothing on the web page itself.

We're running Windows 7, IE8 on a 64-bit machine with a 32-bit browser with a Dr. Explain Advanced license, version 4.0.423. We have the same setup running on a Windows Vista machine with no problem, where all other conditions appear to the same. Application and Capture settings appear to be set identically.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Ladd

Try to "Run Dr.Explain As Administrator".

OK, we launched Dr. Explain with a right click - Run as Administrator - no difference in the capture on the browser content. Any thoughts?

Does a loaded web page matter?
And, please, check for some anti-spyware software that can block DE OLE interactions

When you say "loaded web page", do you mean dynamically loaded? We did try a capture against a statically loaded page (our html compile of the help file) with the same results - the capture tool still did not recognize the page or any of its objects. Let me know if we need to try something else there.

On the spyware, the anti-virus and spyware program and version is the same as we're running on our Vista machine, TrendMicro. I searched their web site to see if they're blocking DB OLE (is that what you mean - I'm not sure what DE OLE might refer to) interactions, and did not find anything specific.

Any other ideas? Should we roll back to an older operating system?

Thank you,
Ladd

Hello, Ladd!
Try to:
- disable anti-virus and firewall as well as any other anti-spyware or anti-malware software before capturing web-application by Dr.Explain (if it does not help, try to uninstall such software completely. It's easier than rollback Windows anyway);
- run both IE8 and Dr.Explain as Administrator.
